Recently, about 100 intercessors gathered for Austin Awake’s prayer training event. It was encouraging to see a relatively even split of  Millennials/Gen Z, and Boomers/Gen X among the participants.

Barb led the first session and stirred everyone by asking them to consider their worldview. This discussion forces one to ask, how much of what I do is based on my culture versus based on the Bible?

The presentation included data, as shown below, from George Barna’s 2026 Research noting that 68-82% of all U.S. adults lack biblical alignment across all worldview categories regardless of faith or religious affiliation. Millennials and Gen Z groups show that only 1-5% are aligned with a Biblical perspective. Not surprisingly, the lowest numbers are found in the category regarding Family and the Value of Life. These chillingly low numbers may account for the reason America has lost its moral compass.

Americans scored the strongest levels of biblical worldview in the categories of Purpose and Calling (19%) and Faith Practices (16%), but the most difficult area was regarding marriage, abortion and the sanctity of life.  The second lowest score was God, Creation and History with only 7% biblical alignment.

Eighty-two percent of American adults have little to no biblical understanding in the category of Human Character and Human Nature.  This group, called World Citizens, are those respondents whose worldview is shaped mostly by the culture rather than by scripture.  But how is it that those who call themselves committed Christians, that go to church regularly, could score so poorly in almost every category?  These numbers highlight the failure of spiritual leaders to make the topics of the bible relevant to modern day living.  Rejecting the Holy Spirit and failing to see the connection between every day living and the Bible has left people in the position to be heavily influenced by a deceptive, destructive agenda of propaganda spread through the media and entertainment.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll press deeper to understand how we’ve adopted ideas from our culture and built our worldview around some wrong thinking.  God is calling us to examine our ways and repent; in other words, turn back to Him and let His thoughts become our thoughts.  We are entering a new season and God’s people cannot go on thinking more like the world than like our God.
