Mix and match might work well for recipes and clothing, but is it a good idea when we are talking about our worldview?  Barna notes that most Americans mix and match ideas and lifestyles from philosophies that are often in conflict with each other.  The result is that people rely on emotions and whatever makes them feel comfortable rather than any kind of moral absolute.  This worldview, called Syncretism, is held by 92% of American adults.  God’s truth has been replaced by “personal truth.”  Sadly, it is the picture of the last verse in the book of Judges, “everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”  Judges 21:25

The pandemic had disastrous effects on all people in a variety of ways.  Adults possessing a biblical worldview declined by one-third during the 2020-2023 period from 6% down to 4%.  Churches and ministries following the lead of corrupt politicians and government mandates only helped to push people away from a biblical worldview, the exact opposite of what Jesus would have done.  Barna says, “Christian pastors must urgently clean up their own theology and commit themselves to providing strategic guidance that will restore positive impact by the millions of Christians in American society.” ¹

The statistics show that what we have been doing over the last 3 or 4 decades has not worked to strengthen people in biblical understanding and worldview.  It is time to change the model; it’s time to ask God for new strategies and to ask for supernatural intervention.  God is calling us all to prioritize spiritual renewal and new understanding of our life in Christ in order to resuscitate not only the people but the nation.  We are called One Nation Under God!  That is His vision for America.

We can’t just blame pastors and ministry leaders for this dismal picture of society.  There is something each of us can do within our spheres of influence toward revitalizing the nation and bringing Kingdom thinking to the forefront.  What part is He calling you to play?  There can be no spectators among those who understand the problem.

A good place to start is asking if you have a good understanding of the problem.  God is saying now, as the New Year begins, “It’s a New Day!”  He is calling us to submit to His leadership in a new way, to leave behind things we have done in the past, not necessarily bad things, but things He highlights and says we no long need.  Will we surrender those and free our hands to embrace the new?  Will we ask Him to align our thoughts with His?  It is urgent that we pursue discussions and prayers regarding how to go about turning this ship in the right direction.

In the meantime, pray and ask God for strategies.  Discuss them with your family, with your friends and with other groups.  Our God is a God of Truth, and it’s up to us to dispel the lies and speak Truth wherever we go.
